Traffic to Black Friday Sites Heats Up

NEW YORK -- Shoppers are hitting the Internet to find out what will be on sale on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Web tracking firm Hitwise announced that the market share of US Internet visits for the top five Black Friday advertising websites increased 167 percent for the week ending November 11, 2006 versus the same week last year (November 12, 2005). The websites showing the strongest growth during the same time period were BlackFridayAds.com (www.blackfridayads.com) and The Black Friday (www.theblackfriday.com), both up 456 percent and 425 percent respectively.
 
The Black Friday advertising website receiving the largest market share of US Internet visits for the week ending November 11, 2006, was Black Friday Advertisements (www.bfads.net) which received 37.65 percent of US Internet visits to the top five Black Friday sites. Black Friday @ GottaDeal.com (www.blackfriday.gottadeal.com) received the second largest share of visits, garnering 27.9 percent, followed by Black Friday.info (www.blackfriday.info) with 17.74 percent of visits.
 
Hitwise Clickstream data show that each of the five Black Friday sites sent more than 50 percent of downstream traffic to websites in the Hitwise Shopping and Classifieds category, indicating that users are finding deals on the Black Friday sites and then linking to retailer websites for more information. Of the top five Black Friday sites, BlackFriday.info sent the largest share of traffic to Shopping and Classifieds sites, at 78.94 percent of downstream traffic.
