Address Profile Facebook is one of the leading social networks on the Internet and targeted primarily toward college students. The site also offers high school, city, regional and company networks. Users can join the site by school and is limited to students and alumni with a valid school e-mail address. They can post profiles, pictures and info about themselves and read about other people in their schools or network. An estimated 85% of all college students are using Facebook regularly. Facebook has over 50 million registered users across more than 47,000 regional, work, college and high school networks. There are over 2,500 colleges, 22,000 high schools and 1,000 work networks supported. Over 200,000 people are joining the site each day. In May, the company unveiled a new platform and invited developers to create new applications that can be used by Facebook and its members. The site launched in February 2004 and was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, who were roommates at Harvard University. The Facebook site quickly became popular and the two dropped out to focus on their venture full-time. Zuckerberg is CEO of the company and Moskovitz is Chief Technology Officer. Facebook currently generates revenue entirely through advertising. In April 2006, the company closed a $25 million round of funding led by Greylock Partners with Meritech Capital Partners, Accel Partners and individual investor Peter Thiel participating. Thiel is a founder of PayPal. Microsoft announced a $240 million investment in October with Facebook, giving it a valuation of $15 billion. Microsoft is also selling advertising on Facebook in a deal that runs through 2011. Yahoo reportedly offered $1 billion to buy the company in 2006 but was turned down.
