Microsoft Acquires PowersetPOSTED July 3, 2008 SAN FRANCISCO -- Microsoft has agreed to acquire Powerset, a startup specializing in search and natural language based in San Francisco. Powerset will join Microsoft's core Search Relevance team and will remain intact in San Francisco. Powerset brings with it natural language technology that complements other natural language processing technologies in Microsoft Research. More importantly Microsoft said in a company blog, Powerset brings to Live Search a set of talented engineers and computational linguists in downtown San Francisco. This is a team with a wide range of experience from other search engines and research organizations like PARC (formerly Xerox PARC). Terms of the acquisition were not released. Microsoft said it is looking to hire even more engineers to its search team. The deal follows the end of negotiations to acquire Yahoo. Powerset has received funding from Foundation Capital and
