Address Profile Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send "updates" (or "tweets"; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website, via the Twitter website, short message service (SMS), instant messaging, or a third-party application such as Twitterrific or Facebook. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and instantly delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone is the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application. Twitter has seen huge growth in traffic during the past year and has become one of the most popular services in the world with over 105 million active users and more than 250 million tweets per day. The company introduced advertiisng and paid tweets this year to generate revenue. Dick Costolo was named CEO of Twitter in October 2010. He was formerly Chief Operating Officer. In December 2011, Saudi Prince Alwaleed and Kingdom Holding Co. invested $300 million in Twitter. The company has received venture funding from Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, along with Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, Charles River Ventures and several individual investors including Marc Andreessen and Ron Conway. In September 2009, the company reportedly received a $100 million round from investors including: Insight Venture Partners, T. Rowe Price, Institutional Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Morgan Stanley. History Twitter, Inc. was born out of the offices
