Address Profile Yelp offers user-generated online reviews of local businesses in major cities with over 6 million reviews to date. A wide variety of businesses are reviewed by members from hair salons to schools, doctors, hotels, auto repair shops, bars and restaurants. Yelp currently covers most U.S. cities and parts of Canada. Yelp received over 22 million unique vistors per month as of June 2009. The site also has mobile and iPhone versions. Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons co-founded Yelp in July 2004 to review local businesses. Both were former employees of PayPal. Yelp makes money by selling ads to local businesses which are known as sponsored results. The site has generated controversy from local businesses who say they have been portrayed unfairly by criticism from some reviewers. The company has raised over $31 million to date from DAG Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and Benchmark Capital. Employee Benefits Yelp offers full medical, dental and vision coverage, a 401k plan, and a gym reimbursement. The company says it also offers free Odwalla juice, string cheese, raisin bagels and a machine that dispenses adult-type beverages! |
